The Berlin-based director, choreographer, teacher, improviser, Judith Sánchez Ruíz (CU- GE), was based in New York since 1999 and relocated to Berlin in 2011. JSR was the guest artist at Texas Dance Improvisational Festival (TDIF), Dallas, US, 2018, and 14 Guangdong Dance International Festival, China with “Noise,“ and „Encaje“ her most recent solo work that recently performed at Vitlycke-Centre for Performing Arts, Sweden. JSR was able to establish not only as a choreographer but also as a teacher at major institutions of higher education in dance throughout Europe, US, and Asia. A former member of Sasha Waltz & Guest, Germany; Trisha Brown Dance Company, US; Mal Pelo Company, Spain, and DanzAbierta Company, Cuba. Among other independent choreographers as David Zambrano, DD Dorvillier, Deborah Hay. From 2012-2018 she developed various collaborative projects together with Edivaldo Ernesto touring in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. This Summer JSR Company has been invited by the b12 festival to co/create and direct with L.A. Choreographer Ania Catherina: Gravitational Attraction: „EMPTY HOUR“ a site-specific performance at the hybrid art space, Trauma Bar und Kino, on July 12, Berlin. Upcoming: „ENCAJE For TEN“, a happening activist event, with an incredible cast. Uferstudios courtyard, June 22 & 23, 5 pm.
Functionality and Perspective in Dance is Judith Sánchez Ruíz class investigation in release technique for the last ten years. Focus on the importance of being grounded, dancers work with initiation and arrival, visceral and organic movement. The class builds up stamina, but at the same time create an understanding of the shifting of weight, clarity of movement, attention to detail, precision and dynamics in a multidirectional approach, allowing some island of specific quality movement improv practice, waking up the imagination while working with a functionally aware body!
