Training for Dancers

After her professional rhythmic gymnastics career (italian champion senior 1993), Cristiana continued the study of ballet and contemporary dance and in 1998 was chosen to join as a trainee the Aterballetto Company, directed by Mauro Bigonzetti.
She also received scholarships at the “Merce Cunninghum Studio” and at the ”Peridance Center”, in New York. She danced, among others, for Botega Dance Company (IT), J.K.Tyl Theater Pilsen (CZ) and from 2001-2009 she joined Balletto dell’Esperia (Turin,IT) dancing principal roles. Since 2010 Cristiana works as free-lancer, based in Berlin. She takes part in different productions as a dancer as well as a choreographer and collaborates with several artists. Her piece “Tangram” (done in collaboration with Stefan Sing) has been invited to be performed in Canada, Usa, Mexico, Japan, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Holland, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland… and keeps on touring. Recently she presented her new work “Home”, in Turin, for “Palcoscenico Danza”. Cristiana taught contemporary dance classes and choreographic workshops in different frames, for professional dancers, dance schools students, circus artists… e.g. Barker Theatre (Turku, Finland), Japanese dance and new circus-festival (Yamaguchi, Japan), International Festival Danse Encore (Canada), Centro Nacional de las Artes CENART
(Mexico city), Dock11 (Berlin), “Katakomben-center for performing arts” (Berlin).

The first part of the class is devoted to floor work. We lay the focus on effortlessness, agility and clarity within the sequences. To allow the dancers to work on precision and fluidity, we focus on which part of the body leads and where the impulse of the movement originates, where it begins and ends. We will continue with more technically challenging combinations, playing with suspensions, out of balance, spirals, slides and falls. We’ll be using a wide range of contrasts. In specific, different dynamics, combining strength and softness, fluid and broken movements, control and freedom. The class is influenced by different dance techniques mixed with my own research. In particular the influence of ballet is present throughout, but keeping in mind that technique is a tool, that makes the pleasure of moving richer.
