Training for Dancers
Fred Gehrig’s dance career includes LCDT, Randon Dance, DV8, Michael Clark, in the U.K. or Ballet Preljocaj, Sidi Graoui (F), Alias(CH), Carte Blanche(N), Bill T. Jones(U.S.). Since completing an M.A. in scenography at Central St Martin, School of the Arts in 2009 his methodology when directing deals with the interdependance of text and movement. This year Fred’s practice spans from devising a solo imprivisation, “the sssssspeech” for the vitrine gallery, Bermondsey square, London, performing Frauke Requhard’s “Electric Hotel”, writing a novel, co-choreographing a video-dance productionon Cap Verdien islands to featuring as well as assisting and featuring for the latest Brad Pitt produced film “WorldWar Z”.
Fred’s classes start with an awareness of self, the body, in connection to space with all its elements. Micro and macro aspects of our bodies will be recognised and lead into an individual dance enhanced by the dancers own explorative will, need and hunger. In the second part of the class movement sequences will be introduced and examined. Nurturing aspects of dynamics, alignment and differences in presence is part of Fred’s shared practice. Classes often end with a breath orientated cool down leading into deep stretches.
