Jara Serrano (1983, Madrid) studied from 1994 to 2002 classical ballet at the Ballet Victor Ullate in Madrid, before she completed her studies in contemporary dance at the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (2002-06) in Amsterdam. In the last year of her studies, she presented her first dance piece. Then she participated in the dance program: DANCE across Europe, an interdisciplinary dance program under the direction of William Forsythe, Wayne Mc Gregor, Angelin Preljocal, Frederic Flamand in Brussels (2005-06) and Dresden (2006-07). At the same time, she continued to develop her own work. After her studies, she worked as an independent dancer with Pierre Droulers at Charleroi Danses, with The Forsythe Company, the choreographer Colette Sadler Stammer Productions, and with other choreographers in Berlin such as Bikash Chatterjee at the Academy of Dramatic Arts. During this time, she realized more video and photo projects.

Since 2007, Jara has lived in Berlin. Here she has focused on dance methodology and “Children’s Dance and Creative Movement” and her choreographic work. In 2015, she recieved a certificate in pedagogy, “Creating dance in Art and Education”, from the Udk and Tanztangente. Currently, she teaches contemporary dance, dance for children and is developing a new choreographic project. From October she will begin a Master in Choreography at the Ernst Busch – HZT.

Class Description Contemporary

The aim of this training is to find the balance between tension and relaxation, to be aware of it and to recognize it in movement. It focuses on stength, flexibility, swing, bringing the body in contact with the floor and the stylization of movements and positions with clear directions and lines. At the same time, we will be working an the mobility of the body through circular movements.

Class Description Ballet

During this ballet training we will stay aware of the breath, and the three-dimensional perception of the body. We will focus on spiral torsion and extension of the movements, and search balance by using the floors resistance and the proper reorganization of the different body parts.
The class will give you space to develop your own potential, help to free yourself from unnecessary habits, and offer the possibility to apply the principals of your own movement practice. You are also invited to explore and integrate in the ballet training your particular concerns about dance or movement in general.
